methodological skepticism
Methodological skepticism is the process of doubting ones beliefs. If my oppinion I think we all have thoughts about our beliefs. I am a Catholic and I believe in God but when something goes wrong and things dont go the way they are planned I start doubting my beliefs. I know this is wrong but I think many people do it because we belief God is suppose to protect us from any harm but sometimes things dont go as planned. We belief that when something bad happens it will come around because "things like that do not happen to us" but sometimes things do.

You're probably right that this type of doubting is fairly common, although I would also say it's not the methodical doubt that Descartes is using.
