Civil Disobedience

      Civil Disobedience is the refusal to comply with certain laws.There are many things that are considered "disobedient" for example hitting someone, but sometimes it is necessary for your own protection. In the United States not paying taxes can also be considered civil disobedience. Another example of Civil Disobedience was when Martin Luther King Protested for his rights.

   In that time black people did not have the right to open there mouth but he did. Eventually it did change everything that is now but before it was wrong.

     I think the Occupy wall street is an example of Civil Disobedience. At first it was for the right reasons but now many people are just doing it for other reasons that are not right.

St. Augustine was right that Unjust law in no law at all, because if people do not believe it is right they will go against it.

Buddhism

       Buddhists believe people suffer because of their own desires. People want material things such as designer clothing and cars etc. this is what causes our suffering. (greed) In my opinion when you live in the United States you will always have to change yourself a little. When you believe in a religion such as Buddhism it may be hard to be yourself as you were in your country. United States is all about money and wealth. You are living "the American Dream" when you have an amazing job, a beautiful house, and a pricey car.  Everything thinks about this life. This is what we go to college for, its to achieve this picture perfect life. In the United States it is hard to lay low and not show of what you have. We work in hopes that one day we will reach the status and success we have always hoped for.

     I think there are some people that will never change, it does not matter were they live. But for most people moving to the United States also means changing what you believe (sometimes just a little bit, sometimes a lot)

Week 8

In my opinion Religion is a type of philosophy. Philosophy always challenges the mind to think about thinks we probably will never know if they are true or not and so does religion. For example as a Catholic I believe in God. There will probably never be real proof of that but its something I choose to believe. There are many things in religion that are argued about every day. Charles Darwin came up with his theory of evolution. This goes against what Catholics are suppose to believe. We are suppose to believe that Adam and Eve created us and this is why we are here today, but now we are hearing about us coming from monkeys? Philosophers have to think about this constantly. I think Charles Darwin made many people start questioning Christianity. All this time we were thinking we came from Adam and Eve but now there are other ideas of were we came from. In Philosophical terms faith has no role. But as a Christian you need faith to believe the things you do.

       Some philosophers say that computers are not really intelligent. And I agree with them. It takes a very intelligent person to make a computer. Computers can only do the things they are programed to do. If a computer is asked to do something it does not know how to do, things get confusing. Yes humans are programed to society but a human can change their thoughts and actions while a computer cannot it is programed until something is physically changed. For example we can learn a new language by reading and talking. A computer cannot really read. It is just programed to do certain things. Even the Bot A.L.I.C.E, she knew what was the capital of Ukraine but she did not know what was the biggest city in the world or what was 5 times 5. Alice answered 10. A computer would not understand how to do 5 times 5. To a person you can explain (5 sets of apples, 5 apples in each set) you can calculate in your head and understand that but a bot would not unless it is programed to know that. Soon the world will depend on robots only.

Our physical selves.

         I do not think that we are just purely physical beings. Then we would not be able to be held accountable for our actions. I think our brain is made to function in a way in which we have conscious and free will. We know what we can and cannot do. The brain is the physical organ that makes everything work. Without it we would have no conscious or thoughts. All our thoughts are collected in the brain. Think about this. If you are smart you would not do something that will send you to jail. If we were a physical being we would be just like a rat. Smart on the outside but probably not very practically smart.

Feminism and Knowledge

   As I was reading about Feminism I realized that yes our teachers always teach us about that but theres so much to think about. Women had no rights. Philosophers put in in their head that they are things not people. They could not say anything or think anything. The man was the one who had full control over the women. I think it is so sad. They were almost like slaves. We dont really talk about feminism but it is still their until today. Many men still think that women are suppose to cook everyday and clean. My boyfriend is always saying I should cook food everyday. Women these days do not have time to cook everyday. I work 5 days and go to school full time taking 18 credits, do you think I can cook everyday?


Knowledge is what we know, sometimes what we learned, sometimes what we hear. Sometimes we have knowlege about reading and writing but we cannot write a paper on a perticular subject. This does not mean we do not have knowledge at all, we just do not know enough. My knowledge is not the same as yours. I cannot know what you are thinking. Even if you explain what you are thinking I will never be fully able to understand what you really are thinking.  Sometimes knowledge is experience. For example if you have never been on a plane. You have knowledge of how it looks and feels but until you actually fly you will not have the same knowledge as people who did fly.

Thoughts

I think the statement of our knowledge is based on our senses is true. Our knowledge comes from what we we learned from our parents. When they told us to not scream because its not polite we learned not to do it. T.V or reading helps us know what we did not know before. All of this has to do with knowledge.

I think mathematical knowledge is also based on our senses. You must see the problem that you will do, then you must listen to what (for example) the professor is saying about the problem and how to do it.

Sometimes we believe what we hear and sometimes it takes a little more than just believing. Sometimes you must see it for your self. For example if someone told you there are unicorns, you would not believe it but if you saw one would you believe it then?
